South Mills. Trochry

Why chose our very stylish South Mill?

South Mill overlooks the Mill Lade (like the North Mill) and has its own entrance through large double doors. The massive stone above the door is the original lintel, and probably dates from before or around 1843, which is the date above the main farmhouse. Inside is a spacious hall with cupboard doors concealing the washing machine and drying space.

Leading upstairs – follow the twinkling lights inset in each step! – pausing half way to see the low window which was once a door used to exit and check on the massive wooden paddles of the mill wheel. Pause here to see photos of just how it looked about 100 years ago..

Upstairs is a sitting room with double French doors opening onto the balcony and a kitchen conveniently right there. You can cook, enjoy a cup of coffee of glass or something stronger while sitting eye level with the birds, cavorting red squirrels for the sharp eyed or just sunning yourself. The wide circular dining table and side table with their glass tops are made from the old mill wheels. For cooler evenings a wood burning stove throws out enough heat for even the chilliest toes! Books, games, TV, DVD player, my own ‘guides’ to the area, maps, family history – it’s all there, and more.

Downstairs is a bedroom which has a zip and link bed, so it can be twins or superking sized. The bathroom leads off the bedroom and has a bath with a shower over, and luxurious underfloor heating.

Heating is electric and the cottage is so well insulated that we guarantee you will never feel too hot or cold. A small garden packed with flowers and shrubs lines the pathway to the front door. And you can wander all round our garden, sitting down where ever you wish adjacent to the wild flower meadow.
